I started drawing at a very early age and attended many art classes during my
adolescence. Having lived in the Northeast (Philadelphia and New York City) for
many years, I visited galleries and major art museums which increased my interest
in the fine arts. I was inspired by examples of major art movements such as Cubism,
Surrealism, and Impressionism.
During the late 1980’s, I studied painting and illustration at Parsons The New
School for Design (New York City). At Parsons, I received painting/drawing lessons
from artists such as Johan Sellenraad, Aedwyn Darroll, Anne McCarthy and
Charles Viera. In 1996, I graduated from the University of the Arts (Philadelphia)
with a BFA in Graphic Design. In recent years, I have studied fine art painting
(Old Master Techniques) with Miami-based artist Eva Roffe.
The focus of my artwork has always fluctuated between carefully planned paintings
and spontaneous abstract/graphic work. I also like to paint on small furniture as a
means to explore the challenges that occur when transferring a two dimensional
design onto a three dimensional object. In addition to oil/acrylic, I also work
in pastels and pen & ink. Even though I can create digital images, I prefer to use
traditional painting mediums which allow me to have direct physical contact with
the blank canvas/paper.
